From horizon to horizon

From horizon to horizon

This is my first time in Denmark on an Erasmus exchange. I was amazed by the flatness that surrounded me and how most of the houses are low, one storey.

When you walk outside, you always feel the wind blowing. The wind is not always strong, but it is often present, which seems logical to me, given the surface (the plain itself) of Denmark. When you look around, it seems that you can see the horizon in all directions. With such a geographical feature, it is not unusual for the wind to blow almost constantly, as there are hardly any mountains to stop it. Moreover, the natural landscape offers you an uninterrupted view of the horizon, where you seem to be able to see as far as the eye can see.

The highest point in the country is only 170 metres above sea level, which is not much when you consider other countries with higher peaks. This allows the weather in Denmark to be quite stable, as there are no high altitudes that cause significant weather changes, as happens in mountainous areas.

This flat landscape and the large amount of space makes Denmark an excellent place to build low-rise and sprawling houses. The houses seem to be built not in height but in width, as they are adapted to fit easily into the landscape, where there are no restrictions due to steep slopes or mountains.
