When we landed in Billund and stepped into the airport, I was impressed by how modern it was. I haven’t traveled much by plane in my life. At most, we would go to Brnik for a coffee, nothing more. Because of that, the first day of the exchange was my first time on a plane and my first time seeing a larger foreign airport.
I had already seen Ljubljana Airport, since last year we visited it with school, so I knew what to expect. However, when we arrived in Warsaw, I was amazed by all 45 boarding gates. Inside, I was surprised by the size of the airport building and the wide selection of shops from regular ones with food and drinks to souvenir stores. There were also many restaurants with very expensive options.
At our final destination in Billund, I found the airport quite charming. Not too big and not too small, just modern enough and not overcrowded. When we stepped outside, we were greeted by a cold windy weather.
We got into a van headed to Herning, where we were staying. During the drive, it was a bit difficult to observe the surroundings because it was dark, but I could still see that the landscape was partly covered in snow. Here and there, a wind turbine would appear, and for most of the journey we were surrounded by industrial buildings and large products displayed in front of them.
When we arrived at the dormatory, I was impressed by how modern it was. The food we received right after arrival was from the freezer, which was understandable since it was Sunday (but on the following days they proved themselves with good and many types of meals).
The rooms for two people were spacious, mostly white, with only the table and chairs being black.
The next day we went for a walk, and that really surprised me and even worried me a bit, no matter where you looked, there were no hills or mountains. At home, I’m used to not seeing very far, becouse of hills unless you go up at least 100 to 500 meters. However in Denmark you can see a vast area even from the second floor (in good weather).
