Exhale stress Inhale freshness

I knew Sunday will be good, in spite of starting with a minor inconvenience.

We woke up ready for a trip to Helsinki. There is only fifteen minutes to the train station, so we walked there. The day before we enthusiastically thought we will buy our tickets on the train but unfortunately, we were mistaken. When we got there, we saw our train and on it there was a sign “NO TICKET SALE”. We stood shocked for a minute there, thinking we will have to go on a next train. Luckily one of us remembered we can buy tickets online using a phone. We boarded the train the last second, nonetheless we made it.

It was and one hour drive. The arrival was like the whole different world from Lahti. The sun was shining and the city was buzzing with people.

Helsinki, the sustainable capital of Finland, is a vibrant seaside city of beautiful islands and great green urban areas. Helsinki marches to a wonderful and unique beat of its own with dynamic food, design, architecture – and sauna! – scenes. Helsinki and its Nordic culture are made by the locals.

The rhythm of Helsinki is laid-back and the city is easily approachable, literally. The public transportation system is one of the best in the world – with that one beautiful metro line – and it is also easy to walk and bike everywhere.

We were travelling around the city by bus and metro, so we decided to buy a day ticket that we can use for all public transport in the zone. Feeling excited we first visited Zoo in Helsinki. It was very beautiful but considering the winter, many animals were not outside for us to see. The city library and the Cathedral is also something worth seeing there. We went around shops as well and then headed back home.

It was a Sunday well spent.
