Moving to a new city can be overwhelming, but events like Welcome to Tampere make it so much easier. I recently attended this gathering, and honestly, it was the perfect introduction to the city.

The event was buzzing with people—locals, expats, and newcomers like me—mingling and sharing their experiences. There were stalls showcasing Finnish culture, local organizations, and fun activities to help us get to know Tampere better.

One of my favorite parts was the introduction to sauna culture. They had a whole setup explaining why Finns love their saunas so much. (Apparently, business deals and even political meetings happen in saunas here—who knew?)

Of course, there was plenty of food! I got to try some delicious Finnish rye bread and karjalanpiirakka (Karelian pies) with egg butter—so simple but so good.

The best part? Meeting people. Everyone was so welcoming, and I even made a few new friends who are also new to Tampere. We’re already planning to explore the city together!
