Life in Slovenija and abroad

I loved living abroad on Tenerife! So let me tell you how it compares to Slovenia.

Something that I deeply missed on Tenerife was the nature I’m used to in Slovenia. I love to go on walks, watch the greenery and zone out, something that i didn‘t do on Tenerife, because the scenery was soo different. I went on a walk and saw mostly the industrial side of Santa Cruz and the locals. That’s not really a bad thing, I loved that people were hanging out outside, children were playing basketball and football while their parents were talking and drinking, watching over them. That was a very common site in the afternoon, it filled me with joy to see people so connected and happy. Shopping on Tenerife is mostly cheaper than in Slovenia at least if you go to a grocery store called Mercadona, it’s just like Mercator, except it cheaper.

The weather is usually constant, sunny and warm, but we got a bit unlucky. The beaches were sandy, which I liked and disliked at the same time. It was my first time going to a sandy beach, so I felt weird walking on sand barefoot. Still it was a nice feeling once i got used to it, the water was cold and clean so I had no problems swimming in it. On the beaches and near them you could hear and see people selling fashion accessories like glasses, purses and neckerchiefs. On set days the bazaars are open, people flock to them and haggle with sellers, I found it very interesting. Something that I had to get used to was the unwritten rule, the rule of waiting for buses and bus lines. Unlike in Slovenia, where it’s a free for all, who gets on a bus in what order. On Tenerife people get in lines and wait in them, no exceptions, even if you have to wait for another bus, they won’t let you skip the line.

That’s all about notable differences, I got used to them very quickly and found some of them to be preferable to the way things are in Slovenia, mainly the lower prices.

The Tenerife Chapter
