Easter in Paris feels very different from what I am used to. Usually, I spend Easter at my grandmother’s house, which is, if you ask me, the perfect way to spend the holiday. If someone had asked me one year ago whether I would ever spend Easter away from home, I would have said no, absolutely not. But here I am, one year later, in Paris. With all that said, I’ve noticed that most people in Paris don’t really celebrate Easter in a big way. Many of them are Muslim, so stores don’t go overboard with decorations like they do in Slovenia. Most people here seem simply happy to have another free day in the week. One of the most confusing things is seeing so many churches in France while realizing that not many people here are actually Christian. I keep asking myself how the country went from being strongly Christian to having such a different religious landscape. But who really knows the answer to that? Sometimes I miss the charm of Easter, the same kind of magic that Christmas has. Being away from home makes me appreciate those moments even more. I’m not sure how my roommate and I will spend Easter this year. Still, I know we will somehow make it work. I just hope that life doesn’t get in the way during the short time we are here. And in the end, I hope everything turns out the way we wish. Happy Easter, everybody.
