People in Spain are pretty different than in Slovenia. The first thing we noticed is that, they love to play the lottery. The first day we got to Madrid, we would just stare at the line that people made. We wondered what are this long lines for? We noticed it鈥檚 for the lottery. The line would expand for two blocks or more and it鈥檚 crazy. Everybody is waiting to cash in their ticket, they don鈥檛 mind the wait. Even if they have to wait in the wind and cold. The guys at work told us that it鈥檚 tradition here, that in this time of year, everybody goes and plays the lottery in hopes of winning. A lot of the workers even play it together. The main guy takes all the cash from the workers, that want to play and he brings them back tickets. It鈥檚 just a big popular tradition here in Madrid and if you come to this city you will definitely not miss these long lottery lines. This was really interesting to us because in Slovenia, I don鈥檛 think I ever saw a line being even close to the line in Madrid. I don鈥檛 even know if I saw more then ten people in line for a lottery in Slovenia.
Next thing I noticed is that they like to eat healthy, at least most of the people. You don鈥檛 see many obese people. In their typical spanish food there is alot of fish, sea food, meat, fruit and vegetables. Maybe they have a habit of eating healthier, but maybe they don鈥檛 eat as good as I think, but from my experience in Slovenia, they eat much healthier in Madrid.
What I really like here is that, Spanish people love to help each other. When somebody needs help at work, or outside of work, they will come straight to you. Workers know each other, they go to parties together, they have a bond and it鈥檚 fun to work with people that you have a past or experience with. When I need help at work and they notice I don鈥檛 understand what he鈥檚 saying, they will always try to explain as best as they can. They put effort in everything and I admire that. If we ever need help outside work, everybody is so friendly, nothing is a problem for them. The first day in Iveco, our boss even printed us a map of Madrid and the co-workers circled the best places to visit and places with the best parties and pubs with cheap beer.(Of cource we didn鈥檛 go party or drink, because we only drink water).
When we leave I will for sure miss Madrid. I met some great people, made some great friends and maybe one day, I can return and see if it stayed the same or did it become even better.
