Four Weeks in Finland: An Experience I Won’t Forget

Over the past four weeks, I experienced Finland and Jyväskylä in the best possible way. I saw so many things that I probably wouldn’t have on a typical holiday. Every day brought something new, and time passed really quickly. I learned a lot of useful skills that I will definitely use back in Slovenia. From driving simulators to actually driving a category C truck, everything was both interesting and enjoyable.

The trip to Helsinki and Tallinn was also a great experience. It was quite demanding from a logistical point of view, but that made it even more exciting. During these four weeks, Bernard and I also learned some important life skills. We learned how to take care of ourselves and how to live more independently. It sounds simple, but in reality, it’s not always easy.

A big part of this experience were the people. I met many Finns who seemed quiet and reserved at first. However, once you got to know them, they became very open and friendly. I made some really good connections. We also met a group of Spanish students who were on exchange as well, and we shared many great moments together.

At the beginning, I was a bit worried about the food. In the end, I can say that the quality of food in Finland is very high. I will also remember our apartment, especially the last few days when it started losing electricity and lights, which made everything a bit more interesting.

I will never forget the conversations I had with locals about society, politics, and everyday life. These discussions gave me a new perspective and helped me see things differently.

I am happy to be going back home, but I know that I will return to Jyväskylä one day. This experience gave me memories, skills, and friendships that I will not forget. It is something that will stay with me for a long time.
