Denmark

Denmark, officially Kingdom of Denmark is the most southern Nordic nation. The Kingdom consists of three parts: Denmark, Greenland and Faroe Islands. The country has a population of around 6 million people. 86% are Danish, other 14% are a mix of different nationalities. Its total area is 43000km2, which is about two times the size of Slovenia. Main religion in the country is Christianity, although atheism has gained a lot of support in the last years.

The current leader of Kingdom is queen Margrethe II, but her role is mostly ceremonial and to promote Denmark and its history. The country is democratic constitutional monarchy. That means that it’s not just the royals who run the country, but there is also an elected government.

Danish standard is pretty high, as the wages here almost double ours in Slovenia. But that comes with a cost. They have much higher taxes than us. The weather here is cloudy for most of the year, but temperatures don’t vary much from ours. It’s also interesting that Denmark is completely flat and its highest point is 170m.

Denmark had little autonomy in its history, and the first real modern Danish state erupted in 19th century. But they had a lot of problems with the Germans, and fought them in two wars for southern part of the country. They remained neutral in World War 1, but in World War 2, they got invaded, again, by the Germans, and were under their occupation till 1945. From then on, they have had peace…finally. Today, Denmark is a highly developed country.
