Hola!

The most interesting thing on Tenerife was a vulcan called El Teide. I said to Lara “We have to go up there!”. She agreed so we went.

The is still considered as an active volcano and I have no clue why because the last eruption was in November of 1909. It is the highest point in Spain, reaching 3718 m. UNESCO and NASA describe it as Earth’s third tallest volcano or volcanic structure. The volcano is in a Teide National Park and that is a World Heritage Sight named by UNESCO in 2007.

The volcano itself is located practically in the center of the island. It’s accessible only with a special entrance permit which you can find on the internet. It’s free but it’s limited to 200 visitors per day (that’s only for the final 200m which you can access only by foot). You get to the volcano with a cable car which takes you from the bottom to the top. It’s a big car so it can carry around 35 passengers and it takes about 8 minutes to reach the top. On the slopes of the mountain there is an astronomical observatory. If the weather is right you can get a great view. The waiting line is really long so we waited for a while and there are a lot of tourists. They only allow you to be at the volcano for max 1 hour just to control the crowd a bit. The most annoying thing is that there is only one bus and we had to wait until 4 in the afternoon just to get back.

But the view was awasome! We walked around a bit and then it was time to go down.
