So, what did I actually learn during this experience? A lot… but let’s talk about the most important and my favourite thing… we made handbags! Yes, actual, real, wearable bags. Not just talking about them, not just sketching… we made them from scratch in just 2 days!
It all started in class with Teacher Pillar, where we began by sketching our ideas. I had a few concepts, but out of the three designs I made, she chose one for me to develop further. From there, things got serious. I had to turn my sketch into a real pattern, which basically means creating the exact shape and pieces needed to build the bag. 
First, you measure and draw your pattern on paper, making sure everything lines up properly. Then you cut the fabric according to the pattern, in my case, a denim style material for the outside. After that, you prepare the lining, which for me was this bright yellow fabric that made the whole thing pop. Then comes sewing everything together, step by step, attaching the sides, the base, and finally the straps.
Now… let me be honest, it wasn’t always smooth. Sometimes I had no idea what was going on. And Miss Pillar? I could barely understand her half the time, but somehow we always ended up laughing about it. Despite the confusion, the chaos, and a few “wait, what am I doing?” moments… the bag still came out looking like something you’d see in a designer store.
And that’s what makes it even better. I didn’t just learn how to sew a bag, I learned how to turn an idea into something real. Something I can actually use and be proud of. In the end, I didn’t just make a bag… I made the perfect bag for me.
