A day at GARAC

GARAC is a private school for car mechanics. At GARAC, there are many different paths depending on what kind of mechanic you want to become. It combines modern technology with traditional learning. The school was built in the 1940s, but it doesn’t look old at all.

One of the most modern aspects of the school is the use of virtual reality glasses, which allow students to practice car painting without using real materials. In some ways, this is even better because it prevents wasting materials.

When they service vehicles with 0 km on them, they never put old parts back. In my opinion, they value their students and education much more than some private schools in Slovenia. However, we don’t have private schools for mechanics, so we can’t really compare them.

The most surprising thing was that they have seven workshops for different mechanical specialties. The first workshop is for modern vehicles, the second is for electric vehicles, and the third is for lorries. This surprised me because I work with buses, and buses and lorries have a lot in common, so I really enjoyed that workshop. The fourth workshop is for bikes, which my roommate Anže loved. The fifth one is for oldtimers, the sixth is for car painters, and the seventh and final one is for car body fitters and repairs.

I honestly couldn’t believe how good this school is. Everything is organized at a very high level and looks very professional. The equipment and technology they use are far better than I expected. It made me realize how advanced a mechanic school can actually be.
