Living Abroad: My Experience in Jyväskylä

Spending four weeks in Jyväskylä as part of a student exchange program was an interesting experience. Before arriving, I expected to face many challenges, but surprisingly, I adapted quickly. Having a spacious apartment where we could cook, relax, and spend time together gave us a sense of freedom and comfort.

The daily routine was similar to life at home. In the morning, we went to school, explored new things, returned to the apartment, had a meal, worked on school tasks, watched a movie, and went to sleep. The main difference was during weekends – at home, weekends are spent with family, but here, we had to organize our time on our own.

One of the biggest changes was learning to take care of myself completely. Living alone, even for a short time, teaches responsibility and self-discipline. Simple things like cooking, cleaning, and managing time become more important.

The locals in Jyväskylä were incredibly friendly and always willing to help. The students we met were also open and welcoming, making it easy to feel comfortable in a new environment.

Although living abroad was a valuable experience, changing environments is not easy. After four weeks, I realized that, for now, I would rather return home than move permanently to another country. However, this exchange taught me a lot about independence and adapting to new situations, which will be useful in the future.
