Our professors gifted the mentors a book about Slovenian cultural clothing. We saw that in the book was a familiar silhouette, and it was聽 Melanija. We quickly got to talking about the traditional clothing of our countries. On the next day, our mentor brought the Finnish traditional clothing she owns and a book all about it. Like ours, Finland has many variations of traditional clothing. The South has more Russian-looking clothing while the north is more Swedish-influenced. Our mentor explained to us that they are worn only on special occasions like Christmas.
We also asked about Finnish traditional food. The most common one is buckwheat bread which has cottage cheese in the middle. We also noticed that almost every bread and almost all desserts have rosemary in them. they are also very proud of their coffee. Other than that they don’t eat traditional food. We asked if there was a restaurant near that had it and they said that they don’t.
Later on, we talked about the differences in music. We quickly found out just how sad and mournful Finnish music was. We spent a whole hour exchanging music that we listen to. The conclusion was that Slovenia has a more happy tone to its music. With that, I started to miss my home country. Sometimes I miss the colorful nature and the cheerful in this grey town.
