Iittala Village rounds up everything you must see and experience in the capital of glass manufacturing in Finland, the village of Iittala and the old rural municipality of Kalvola. You can reach it by car, by bus or take a train – ecologically. At Iittala Naive Art Railway Station you can start a joyful experience on the spot at your arrival.

My friend and I went on a trip to the village with out two Finnish mentors. We decided to go there because of our project at school where we have to include Iittala in our clothes we are making.

The local train with which we travelled, is a sustainable mode of transport to get to Iittala Village, the heart of glass design. The train is an excellent choice also due to the fact that the Iittala art experience begins right at the railway station. We were greeted by an art “Cats on the window”.

At the Arts and Crafts Quarter, we were delighted to find the modern and luminous Iittala Outlet, where we also purchased lasting gifts and souvenirs for ourselves, friends and family. There is Kultasuklaa factory shop as well, where you get to see for yourself how chocolate is made. We also found unique and inviting entrepreneur boutiques at the Arts and Crafts Quarter. The restaurant is a good place to stop for lunch or refreshments, which we definitely needed in between the exhibitions.

The Arts and Crafts Quarter ends at the old wooden schoolhouse, where the simple art winter exhibition opened recently. Naive art is gentle feel-good art that people of all ages can enjoy.

Even though we were exhausted after walking around the village whole day, it ended great, with a train-drive back home.
